About Us

DABs at Liskeard Tutoring has been supporting and tutoring children and young people from Key Stages 1, 2 and 3 for over 12 years. I have also successfully taught students taking the Eleven Plus entrance exams in Plymouth High School for Girls, Devonport High School for Girls and Boys. In 2012 I gained a certificate in teaching children with Dyslexia providing me with additional knowledge to support children and young people struggling to read and write. Recently I have had the pleasure of teaching computing and ICT to children in Key Stages 1 and 2.

Philosophy

My philosophy of education is to ensure the learning is fun. I have found, through research, that children learn better when they are enjoying the process. I utilise the playing of games as much as possible to re-enforce the learning that takes place in the classroom. I endeavour to make tutoring affordable as much as possible and provide the tuition at either the pupils home or the tutors address, offering the choice to make sure both the pupil and parents / carers are comfortable.

DAB’s at Liskeard Tutoring was founded in 2007, I specialise in mathematics and have over ten years experience tutoring children including children with special educational needs.

I have a First Class Honors Degree in Education Studies coupled with a Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning providing a secure understanding of the current educational system and an in-depth knowledge of the various learning styles each pupil may demonstrate.

When it comes to tutoring in maths or English, I provide a multi-sensory approach wherever possible. With respect to the Eleven Plus, I believe it is essential to support the verbal and non-verbal reasoning through as much practise as possible.

I support a number of children who demonstrate difficulties with spelling, reading and writing by utilising the multi-sensory approach as suggested by a number of research programmes. This approach is particularly successful for children and young people with dyslexia. In October of 2012, I passed a Dyslexia Certificate course, enabling me to teach children and young people with dyslexia.

My own research in supporting children and young people can be made available. Please contact me for further details. A summary of the research available can be seen on the research page of this site.
